Modalities Used in Sessions

When people want to feel fully alive again and safe in their bodies, to become the person they strive to be, need support in being able to take action, find emotions overwhelming, they come to me. I draw from a variety of modalities during sessions, based on what is most appropriate for the client. I provide verbal trauma focused psychotherapy and am also an expert in using the resource of non-verbal communication when words are not enough, when people can’t find the right words or when words feel too threatening. I am able to help individuals find a variety of ways of connecting to and expressing themselves.

Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration, for the purpose of improving mental health and well-being. Benefits include, stress reduction and peace of mind, releasing tension or trauma and expressing and managing overwhelming thoughts and feelings. It is used for all age groups.

Creative Art Therapy. Using art, journaling, music in addition to movement to promote self-exploration and self-understanding, maximizing resources for communication, increasing and rehearsing adaptive coping behaviors, and increasing confidence, self-esteem and social skills. It is the process and not the product that is important. One does not need to be an expert in art or movement.

Somatic Experiencing addresses how to work with trauma physiology. It supports regulation of the autonomic nervous system, which underlies every aspect of our physical, emotional, and psychological functioning. SE enhances the depth, effectiveness, and outcome of psychotherapeutic interventions focused on relational, developmental, and psychodynamic issues. SE supports mood regulation, the reworking of addictive patterns, and the prevention or resolution of PTSD. SE techniques are also effective in reducing or eliminating chronic pain and trauma-related symptoms presenting in the musculoskeletal system.

Integral Somatic Psychology is an approach to improve therapeutic outcomes through greater embodiment of all aspects of experience and all levels of the psyche. In particular, it offers methods for improving cognitive, affective, as well as behavioral outcomes in any psychological work through greater embodiment of different types of emotions through the science of the physiology of emotions and principles of energy psychology.
